I am a lover of old movies and I adore Audrey Hepburn which both led to my desire to visit Rome. Since I was young I fascinated about sitting at a outdoor cafe on the streets of Rome. Finally I was able to visit and do that exact thing and I loved every minute of it!
Since I’ve been to various other countries outside of the US I know airports operate different. We deplaned right on the tarmac and a bus was waiting to pick us up. Thankfully the weather was nice but I can’t imagine if it was pouring rain how terrible of an experience it would have been. The bus dropped us, we picked up our luggage and stepped outside to wait on our driver. Before our arrival I had a driver set to pick us up through our AirBnB host. FCO was a good drive away from our AirBnB so I would definitely recommend hiring a driver. Despite the distance we were able to see a lot on our drive, including the Colosseum. I choose the AirBnB because it was in the heart of the city and close to most places we wanted to visit.
Since we were only going to have 2 days I wanted to make sure we were able to see as much as we could.
Day 1: Vatican City (make sure you do the skip the line option) and Hop on Hop Off Bus (this got us all around the city)
Day 2: Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps
We were able to see the top spots and eat until we couldn’t eat anymore. I wanted to do a day trip to Tuscany but we ended up spending the entire day in Vatican City and did not get to see the other sights so I put it off until next visit. The good thing about Italy is the trains, you can take a trip anywhere in such a short amount of time. Next visit to Italy I will spend more days because like most places 2 days is not enough.
